Your Digital Influence is Defined by the Klout Score.
What’s your Klout score?
If you are an active social media marketer, you might have heard Klout and how it is making a revolutionary change in social media marketing. Klout was launched in 2008 and is a mobile app and at the same time a website that utilizes social media analytics to determine the rank of its users by measuring its online social influence with the use of the Klout Score which is technically a numerical value from 1 to 100. To determine the Klout score, Klout determines the size of the user’s social media network and gathers the created content for each social account. Interaction or user engagement is then measured with the use of the content.
What does Klout measure anyway?
In order for you to use Klout, you have to give the site access to the social media accounts you want to track. Usually, Twitter and Facebook are the staples. It’s good to know too that Klout also supports LinkedIn. Overall, Klout actually provides you four (4) scores altogether: your overall Klout score, Amplification Probability, Network scores and True Reach.
To measure the scores, Klout had reported that they look at thirty five (35) variables on Twitter and Facebook in order to measure the scores. Your overall Klout score is highly related to comments, clicks and retweets. Your user engagement or engaged audience are measured via True Reach – a method in which Klout looks for instances of followers and friends who are actively listening and reacting to your posts. True reach is the only score that is not based on the 1-100 scale. Your Amplification Score is the likelihood that your posts are retweeted or with which receives an @ reply in Twitter or a comment or “like” on Facebook. Lastly, the Network Score examines your engaged audience and then considers how these posts are influential.
Klout had never announced how exactly it measures its scoring and how it weighs all the numbers. It talks about comments, clicks and even retweets but does not give any hint on whether any of these are seen more valuable than the others. Klout never even says if there is a difference between a frequent follower reply over having multitude of replies from different followers.
How can Klout help you in social media?
The most valuable feedback that Klout can give you is to validate whether you have a good presence on social networking sites and track how your online visibility changes in time. Upon using Klout over time, you will have a very vivid idea on how your social media networks had grown. You can even use this data to improve your social presence and increase your user engagement. With Klout, you can experiment with the data it provides to help you market your brand well over social media networks.
