For every thriving business online out there, there are hundreds who easily fade away in the online marketing world. If you are planning to set up a business online, you are probably thinking right now of the hours you need to spend at your computer, setting up your website and making everything perfect.
However, I can still suggest that you take the time to rethink about what you are going to offer your consumers online. The online marketing business has considerably changed and as you can see, the competition is now tougher than ever. Although the competition is tough, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you cannot launch a successful online business. Bear in mind that you just have to be stronger, better and more efficient compared to your competitors in the market. Rather than relying on pure luck, I have researched on the opinions of experts on their success when it comes to the online marketing business.
The founder of switchmyloan.com.au, Daniel Jovevski, who was named as one of Perth’s Top 100 Most Influential Small Business Leaders by Nifnex newspaper in 2013 discussed that the first step to success is testing your idea. Furthermore, Jovevski added that the product or service you are offering should solve one specific problem that people are currently facing. Doing this will help you find that one idea that sticks. To build a better product or service, you have to constantly test, improve and feed information.
Jovevski said that after spending a fortune with Google Ads, he realized that he was targeting the wrong people so he shifted to creating social media strategies that included videos, hints and tips and get on a camera and engage with the audience. The results were amazing and surprisingly, he discovered that their biggest fans were middle-aged women who were eagerly sharing their videos. From that effort, Jovevski honed all the marketing efforts to make readable content that people would actually like to share.
The founder of Entropy, Deborah Latouf shared her experiences too about shifting from bricks and mortar to an online store. It wasn’t an easy transition but as of today, Entropy has become the most extensive independent online toy store in Australia.
Latouf disclosed that you do not stop once your website is up and running. Although you don’t have a rent to pay, you should still be investing in a lot of things for improving your business. You should also have a set budget, for search engine optimization, search engine and social media marketing and even website development. Come to think of it, eCommerce isn’t going to be more cost-effective. She added that learning eCommerce is a huge learning curve, but it’s at the same time exciting as you are evolving as an online marketer.
Online Entrepreneur Fred Schebesta shared his top five tips when starting your own business online:
Find Your Own Niche.
If you want your business to survive in the online marketing business, you have to know exactly where you will stand in the market. Do not enter the market without a massive scheme of what you want to do. Think of something that no one else have, develop an idea and execute it. By doing this, you will receive massive support and people will see the need for that specific product or service you are offering.
Make Your Writing Style Impressive.
Most of the time, companies go over the top when it comes to sales – it is evident in their content and the audience will automatically know that something is up. Instead of doing the same thing, you should offer genuinely helpful content in the language of the audience. Doing this will increase your user engagement as you are answering the needs of the audience. Remember to focus your attention both on quality and quantity – not just one or the other.
Know How Your Website Flows As This Is Your Biggest Asset.
The most vital factor in the survival of your company is analyzing your website’s dialogue. Revisit your site from time to time and do not just focus on your website content. It’s a great thing that your call to actions are clear enough to ignite user engagement. Focus too on layout and design and make sure that your readers are assisted when navigating your website.
Always make it a point that you are offering your consumers something new and that your website is the realistic representation of what you can offer. Look for new ways to improve your content, the images you use and how you can easily streamline the buying process. Small improvements should be done to your website on a daily basis as the online retail industry is ever-evolving.
Reinforce All Your Decisions With Insights.
Analytics is a great tool that you can use to monitor your website. The difference between your traffic and conversion rate is directly related to people who are getting lost in your website. This will lead back to understanding your website’s dialogue. Your statistics will always show how much attention you are getting online.
Continuously Offer Fresh and Relevant Information to Your Audience.
Most companies to date have kept the tradition of increasing their ongoing list of contacts with audiences by using email marketing. Although this technique can still produce great results, constantly updating and improving the content of your homepage and all your other landing pages is also very important. You need to let your consumers know that if they are to engage with the products and services you offer, they are getting the best and freshest information. Plus make sure that they will also get the most informed response.
Whatever you have in mind that you want to offer to online consumers, make sure that you are offering something unique and helpful. By giving a solution to a problem that people face on a daily basis, you will surely have a great startup in your online business.

Hi, Anna, really interesting post. If I may add – if one is at the beginning, set himself expectation rather low, not too high. As I see it, an online business in a game on a long run. Regards, Matija, Slovenia
