It is no surprise that social media networks have been adding cool features to their respective platforms to make it a whole lot more exciting for users. And it can also be tough to keep up with these changes and improvements – most especially if there’s no big announcement about the implementation of platform changes and upgrades.
Let’s say for instance, were you aware that you can already reorder the sections of your Facebook business page? That it is already made possible to embed a SlideShare presentation directly into a 140-character tweet? That you can even add hidden relationship notes on your LinkedIn connections? These may be cool features but if you don’t know how to utilize them, it’s still of no use to you.
There are a lot of things that most of your favorite social networks can do which have been long forgotten and fallen through the tracks. To facilitate you in discovering these amazing social media features, I have come up with a roundup list of 20 less popular features you can observe in Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and most importantly, Pinterest. Let’s go check them all out!
1. Save links for later reading.
Have you ever seen interesting articles in your newsfeed that you wished you could bookmark and read later in the day when you’re not busy anymore? Well, you can actually do that. Facebook now has a feature that allows its users to save links of events, music, TV shows, articles and a whole lot more. You are just one click away from saving. All you have to do is to click the little downward arrow that is visible on the top-right where there is a save option.
2. Replace Annoying Facebook Ads with Baby Animals.
If you have always hated banner ads, which usually appears on Facebook, it’ll be fun to replace them with baby animals. Baby Animal Blocker might be the perfect solution for the annoying ads you are trying to avoid in Facebook.
This Free Google Chrome Extension replaces display ads into images of baby animals on every site you visit – that includes Facebook. How cool is that?
3. Find Targeted Conversions.
This is fairly an easy one and you can actually find targeted keywords on Facebook. The search bar in Facebook does not just function as for searching names, pages, events, groups and even apps. Typing a few keywords can also bring you to old news feed posts and this is possible both on your mobile phone and your desktop.
4. Create Polls in a Facebook Event or Group.
Although Facebook had already removed the poll feature when it comes to the status updates applicable on business pages, you are still capable of doing a poll in events or groups.
Just choose the “Ask a Question” tab then select the “add poll options” where you can modify multiple-choice options. You can use this functionality to ask for feedback about the event or the queries that is applicable to the group.
5. Directly Edit Photos using the Facebook Mobile App.
It is already possible to edit your photos when you have the Facebook mobile app! If you need a quick fix on your photos, you can enhance, apply filter, crop and rotate them using the app. How do you do that? Simply tap the photo you have uploaded on Facebook to bring up the edit photo options at the bottom of the app.
6. Reorder the Sections You have Added on your Business Page.
Want the Photos to be the forefront of your business page above the “about” section? Now you can do that!
Just hover your mouse on the section and wait for the pencil to appear. Once you see it, click the pencil and select “Manage Sections”. Here you can reorder the sections of your business page in just a few clicks.
7. Embed SlideShare presentations on a 140-character tweet.
Embedding a SlideShare presentation via twitter allows your followers to flip through the pages without ever leaving Twitter. All you have to do to embed a presentation to a tweet is to directly add the link to your tweet and it will be automatically embedded in your tweet. This is also applicable to SlideShare videos and documents.
8. Find out who Unfollowed you on Twitter.
With the use of unfollowers.com, you can actually monitor who unfollowed your account on Twitter. This is particularly useful for brands who are building their online visibility on Twitter and using different experimental approaches for online marketing like posting time and voice, among others. If you are noticing a lot of influential followers in your industry who are unfollowing you, it’s about time that you rethink your strategy and switch to something more useful.
9. Pin GIFs on Twitter with an autoplay functionality.
Posting a GIF photo on Twitter would not automatically autoplay in your followers’ feeds. It will however autoplay once you have pinned your tweet on top of your Twitter feed. Go ahead and try it now! To do this, you first have to publish your tweet with the GIF image. Once it goes live, click on the ellipsis you will find at the bottom of your tweet and then select “Pin Tweet”. It will show as your top most tweet and will autoplay in your followers’ feed.
10. Free Analytics of Your Tweets.
Everyone on Twitter can analyze their data for free. With Twitter Analytics, you can see and analyze timeline activity, followers, engagement, link clicks, impressions, favorites, retweets and even replies. You can even download this data in an excel file.
11. Hashtag Research and Analysis.
With the use of Topsy.com, you can already research hashtags – how often they are used over time, whether people are using certain hashtags and so much more. You can do this when you are researching the right hashtag for an upcoming event you want to promote in Twitter.
12. Tag People when posting Twitter photos.
Just like how it’s been working perfectly well on Facebook and Instagram, now you can already tag photos on Twitter without ever counting them against the 140-character limit. Once your photo has been uploaded, you can click and tag up to 10 people.
Remember to Tag Relevant People within your post, or you’ll be earning yourself an unfriend or block future from those you over tag.
13. Create a photo collage.
Torn between two, three or even four photos you want to tweet? Turns out you don’t have to worry about this anymore! It is now easy to upload up to four photos in one tweet which will automatically create a collage! This cool feature is made available both for the twitter mobile app and on desktop.
14. See all your favorited tweets.
This is visible in your Twitter page and you can see everything you’ve ever “favorited”. All your followers can see these tweets too. This tool can be use as a bookmark or a place of remembering the past tweets you have fancied.
15. Add hidden relationship notes.
This is one of the coolest features of LinkedIn. You can add hidden notes for any connections you have in LinkedIn – you can even add reminders and how you two met and even who introduced you. You are the only one who can access the information you enter in your hidden notes on LinkedIn.
16. Add media files on your LinkedIn profile.
Break up the boring all-text profile and start showcasing your wok by adding media to your profile. You can add documents, images, links, videos and even audio effects to different sections in your profile. You can just click the “Edit Profile” button, search for the media icon every time you hover your mouse in each section of your profile.
17. Save a Jobs or People Search.
If you are job hunting on LinkedIn, it will usually take more than one login session. Once you have however made your job search, you can save this by clicking the “save search”. You can save up to a maximum of 10 job searches in LinkedIn.
18. Create your own Showcase Page.
You can create showcase pages when you want to promote specific products or services that your company is offering. If your primary goal for creating a LinkedIn page is to create relevant content and provide personal and interesting facts to specific buyers you have in the market, then creating Showcase pages is one of the most effective social media strategy.
19. Use links that can be tracked without being tagged as spam.
Pinterest has the tendency to block shortened links. If you have been adding tracking cookies to your links and posting them on short URLs, they’re probably not linking anywhere in Pinterest. The beauty of posting links on Pinterest is that you don’t need to shorten your links. You can post long, trackable links just like that and you’re done.
20. See Users who are Pinning from your site.
Have you ever wondered who are the users who are usually pinning from your website? All you have to do is copy this link on the address bar: http://www.pinterest.com/source/yourwebsite.com/.
